The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, is the organizing body for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. The registration process commenced on August 25, 2025, with examinations scheduled for February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. Aspirants seeking admission into Master’s or Doctoral programs in Technology, Architecture, or Engineering, or those targeting PSU recruitment, must fulfill the official GATE 2026 eligibility criteria. The GATE 2026 examination will feature 30 distinct papers, and candidates are permitted to appear for only one paper. GATE Eligibility 2026- Age Limit

There is no age restriction for candidates appearing for the GATE 2026 exam. The official authorities have set no minimum or maximum age limit for participation. However, applicants are required to possess the necessary qualifying degree to be eligible to apply.

• Indian nationality candidates will be eligible.
• Candidates from other than India will also be eligible.

GATE Eligibility 2026- Number of Attempts Limit

There is no limit on the number of attempts for the GATE exam. While GATE scores are valid for three years from the date of announcement, candidates may retake the examination as often as they wish. Strategically, many students aim to clear the exam early in their academic journey to maximize career opportunities.

Indian citizens and international candidates from Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are eligible to appear for GATE 2026.
Candidates must have completed or be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master’s degree in Science in a relevant field.
There is no upper or lower age limit for the GATE exam.
There is no minimum pass percentage required in the qualifying examination to register for GATE 2026.
Eligible degrees include B.Tech, B.E., B.Pharm, B.Arch, B.Sc. (Research), B.S., M.Sc., M.A., MCA, or professional society certifications equivalent to B.Tech/B.E./B.Arch, as well as integrated dual-degree programs (M.E./M.Tech/M.S.).
