Calculate solution concentration, required solute mass from molecular weight, or solve dilution problems using the conservation formula MโVโ = MโVโ.
Molarity is moles of solute per liter of solution. Since moles = mass / molar mass, you can go straight from a weighed solid to a concentration.
Dilution conservation: moles before = moles after, so stock concentration ร stock volume equals final concentration ร final volume. Rearranged: Vโ = (Mโ ร Vโ) / Mโ.
Molarity (mol/L) is the standard concentration unit in chemistry and biology labs. When a solution is diluted with more solvent, the amount of solute does not change โ only the volume does โ which is exactly why the MโVโ = MโVโ conservation formula works for every dilution.
Dissolving 5.844 g NaCl (MW 58.44 g/mol) in 0.5 L: moles = 0.1000, M = 0.1000 / 0.5 = 0.2000 M. These are the calculator's default values (with the volume entered as 500 mL), so the Mass โ Molarity tab reproduces this result on load.
Work with moles from the other side: solve PV = nRT for pressure, volume, moles, or temperature of a gas.
Balance reaction equations to find the mole ratios you need for solution preparation and stoichiometry.
