Find out the exact average SGPA you must score in your remaining semesters to reach your target overall CGPA.
Your Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is a weighted mathematical average of your Semester Grade Point Averages (SGPAs). As you progress deeper into your college degree, each subsequent semester represents a smaller fraction of your overall aggregate, making significant CGPA increases progressively more challenging.
To compute the necessary SGPA in remaining semesters:
Req SGPA = ((Target × Total) - (Current × Completed)) / Remaining
Because SGPA cannot exceed 10.0 on standard scales, your maximum achievable graduation CGPA is capped by scoring a perfect 10.0 in every remaining semester. If your required SGPA calculation exceeds 10.0, the target cannot be reached without re-attempting past courses.
In an 8-semester course with 6 semesters completed at 6.5 CGPA, raising to 8.0 would require ((8.0 * 8) - (6.5 * 6)) / 2 = (64 - 39) / 2 = 12.5 SGPA, which is impossible since SGPA is capped at 10.0. The maximum achievable CGPA in this case with two 10.0 semesters is 7.375 CGPA.
This calculator assumes an equal distribution of total course credits per semester (e.g. approx. 20-25 credits per semester), which holds true for >95% of standard Indian university CBCS curriculums.
