Who is eligible for the IBPS Law Officer Exam?

Candidates must be between 20 and 30 years of age and hold a Bachelor's degree in Law (enrolled with the Bar Council) to be eligible to apply for the IBPS SO Law Officer position. 

Educational Qualification 

  • Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) from a university/institution recognised by the Government of India.
  • Candidate must be enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of India or a State Bar Council.
  • Final-year students are not eligible; the qualifying degree must be completed and the result declared by the cut-off date mentioned in the notification
  • Prior work experience as a legal practitioner is generally preferred by some banks, though it may not always be mandatory

What are the IBPS SO Law Officer Selection Stages?

The competitive selection process for this recruitment involves the following distinct stages. 

  1. IBPS Law Officer Prelims Exam - This is the 1st stage of the exam, which is Qualifying in nature. Only those candidates who registered for the examination will be eligible to appear for the exam.
  2. IBPS Law Officer Mains Exam - Qualified candidates in the prelims exam will be shortlited for the mains exam. Conducted to evaluate the Professional Knowledge in the exam, and the total marks for the exam are 60.
  3. IBPS Law Officer Interview Round -  Only Mains-qualified candidates are called for the interview. The Interview will be conducted for a total of 100 marks.
  4. Final Merit List - The final merit list is based on the Mains score + Interview score combined. The candidates on the final list are eventually the ones who are recruited and get training as IBPS Law Officers.
