SSC CGL Tier 1 

Computer-Based Test (CBT) Tier 1 functions as a mandatory qualifying stage. Scores from this tier are not factored into the final merit list; instead, the exam acts as a critical screening tool to shortlist qualified candidates for the Tier 2 main examination. 

Essential Highlights for SSC CGL Tier 1

  • Mode of Examination: Computer-Based (Online)
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Negative Marking: There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer.
  • Language of Examination: Questions will be set in both English and Hindi, except for the English Comprehension section.
  • Normalisation of Scores: If the examination is conducted in multiple shifts, the scores will be normalized.
  • Qualifying Nature: Candidates need to secure the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by the SSC to be eligible for Tier-II. The minimum qualifying marks are generally fixed at 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for all other categories.

SSC CGL Tier 2

Computer-Based Test (CBT) Tier 2 serves as the decisive main examination. Your performance in this stage is the primary determinant for final selection. The examination includes various modules, and the specific papers required depend on the candidate's applied post preferences. 

Essential Highlights for SSC CGL Tier 2

  • Mode of Examination: Computer-Based (Online)
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Negative Marking: In Paper I, there will be a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section I and Section II, and Section III. There is no negative marking in the DEST modules of Section IV. For Paper-II, there will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer.
  • Qualifying Paper: In Paper 1, Section-III i.e. Computer Knowledge Test and Section-IV i.e. Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) will be mandatory for all the posts; however, it will be qualifying in nature.
  • Language of Examination: Questions in Paper-I will be in both English and Hindi, except for the English Language and Comprehension module. Paper-II and Paper-III will also be bilingual.
  • Compulsory Papers: Paper I is compulsory for all candidates who qualify in Tier I. 
  • Paper 2 & 3: Paper II will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and Paper III for candidates who applied for AAO posts. 
  • Merit Determination: The final merit list will be prepared based on the overall performance in Tier-II.

Document Verification

Candidates who meet the cut-off for Tier 2 will be invited for Document Verification (DV). You must present original documentation, including proof of age, educational credentials, identity, and category status, along with self-attested copies as specified in the official notification. Non-compliance with document requirements will result in immediate disqualification.

Note: Final merit and recruitment for all SSC CGL vacancies are calculated exclusively based on performance in the Tier 2 examination.
