TNPSC Group 1 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To ensure eligibility for the TNPSC Group 1 2026 exam, candidates must adhere strictly to the criteria defined for each post, including age limits and educational qualifications. Review the specific requirements carefully before applying. 

TNPSC Group 1 Education Qualification

Candidates must hold a degree from any University recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or any institution established by an Act of the Central or State Legislature, or an institution deemed to be a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

Note: Final-year students are eligible to apply for the Preliminary examination. However, they must provide proof of graduation while submitting documents for the Main Written Examination. Failure to produce valid proof by the prescribed date will result in disqualification from the Main Written Examination.

Physical Qualification

Applicants for the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category I) post must meet the following mandatory physical standards:-

TNPSC Group 1 2026 Exam Pattern

The selection process comprises three stages: (i) Preliminary Examination, (ii) Main Written Examination, and (iii) an Oral Test (Interview). The Preliminary stage utilizes objective-type MCQs, while the Main stage consists of descriptive papers. Further details on the exam pattern are provided below. 

TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Exam Pattern

The preliminary examination is OMR-based with objective questions. Importantly, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers. The total marks for the paper are 300, with each question carrying 1.5 marks.

TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam Pattern

The Main examination involves descriptive-type questions that evaluate candidates' analytical abilities across various subject domains. The number of questions and structure of the paper are designed to test deep knowledge and conceptual clarity.

For the Main Written Examination, answer sheets for Paper-II, Paper-III, and Paper-IV will only be evaluated if a candidate secures at least 40% (40 marks) in Paper-I. Notably, scores achieved in Paper-I are not calculated for final ranking purposes.
