Rakshya is currently advancing her professional career through a Master's Degree in International Business at Lincoln University in California, USA. We sat down with her to discuss her inspiring study abroad experience.
Tell us a bit about yourself. What is your name? How old are you? Where do you come from?
Hello, I am Rakshya Nepal. At 27, I am currently pursuing an MBA with a specialization in International Business. My passion for travel has always driven my academic pursuits, leading me to study across different continents. After completing my Bachelor’s degree in Europe, I am honored to be continuing my education in the USA, an experience that has truly broadened my horizons.
What is the name of your university, study programme, which discipline? When did you start studying?
I enrolled in the International Business MBA program at Lincoln University in Oakland, California, starting my journey in August 2015.
What made you choose this programme? How did you decide?
Business and Marketing have always been my primary areas of interest. The field is dynamic, focusing on innovative ideas, understanding consumer behavior, and delivering real value. Studying abroad has provided me with the unique opportunity to analyze diverse business cultures and global strategies, which was the main motivation behind choosing this specific university and program.

What were the main challenges you had to face before being accepted to your university?
Navigating the requirements for international students can be complex. My biggest hurdles involved meeting English language proficiency standards and ensuring my previous academic credits aligned seamlessly with the new curriculum.
Did you take a language test (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS) when applying for the programme? If yes, which one did you choose, why and how was your experience with it?
Taking the IELTS was a pivotal step for me; it significantly enhanced my English language proficiency and prepared me for academic success.
What are three things you like most about the university? If you could improve anything about the university, what would it be?
What stands out most about Lincoln University are the equal opportunities provided to all students, the merit-based scholarship programs, and the robust support systems, including online libraries and supplemental workshops.
What was the biggest surprise in your study adventure?
I was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming and friendly the local community is. Furthermore, the campus is perfectly situated with easy access to local amenities and vibrant city life.
How would you rate your experience on a scale from zero to ten (0 – It is/was a total disaster, 10 – I have/had the time of my life)? Why?
I would rate my experience a 10/10. These past five years have flown by, filled with enriching experiences, and I am excited to see what the future holds.
What would be your advice for students from your country that consider studying abroad? Is there anything that you would do differently if you could do it over again?
My advice to future students is to stay prepared, maintain a positive outlook, and always keep your long-term goals in focus.
What are three things you like the most about the city? Share your favourite spot, at the university and the city with us!
The computer labs and the cafeteria are campus highlights, and the classrooms are fully equipped to provide an engaging learning environment. Additionally, the city offers plenty of leisure activities to enjoy outside of studies.
What are your future plans after graduating?
I am currently working for a reputable company, and after graduation, I plan to continue advancing my career while simultaneously pursuing further educational opportunities.
