My name is Md. Shohidur Rahman, I am 29 years old, and I am originally from Bangladesh.
What is the name of your university? When did you start studying?
I have been pursuing a two-year Master’s degree in Communication Systems and Networks at the Tampere University of Technology in Tampere, Finland.
Why did you want to study abroad?
I was driven by a desire to experience the educational standards of the “developed world.” Having already completed a Master’s degree in my home country, I sought an international education that would equip me with global perspectives to bring back and implement in Bangladesh.
What were your main priorities when choosing your university and your programme?
My primary criteria were finding universities with strong global reputations that also offered specialized curricula aligned with my academic interests.
I conducted thorough research into world rankings and available research facilities. Additionally, I carefully evaluated tuition fees, living expenses, and the local cultural environment to ensure I chose an inclusive and welcoming destination.
Was this your first study choice? What other universities did you consider?
Although I took the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), I ultimately decided against applying to universities in the USA due to high application costs and complex administrative procedures.
I found the application process for Finland to be very straightforward, and I was encouraged by a colleague who had previously studied there. I solidified my decision after receiving positive endorsements from my former professors.
Did you know from the start that you wanted to study in that particular country and city?
To be honest, I felt overwhelmed at the start, but as I began the application process, I was able to narrow down my choices effectively.
How did Online Result help you in your decision process?
Online Result proved to be an invaluable resource, providing detailed insights into university programs, tuition fees, and living costs, which greatly facilitated my final decision.
Did you take a language test (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS) when applying for the programme?
I sat for the IELTS exam, but unfortunately, I didn't perform as well as I had hoped. Looking back, I believe a lack of adequate preparation was the primary reason I didn't achieve the score I know I was capable of earning.
What would be your advice for students that consider studying abroad?
My advice is to remain steadfast in pursuing your goals and never lose sight of your dreams.
What financial advice would you give to future students?
While many programs here are tuition-free and offer discounts for student housing and dining, I still work part-time to cover my expenses. I strongly recommend that prospective students secure financial backing for their first year.
After the first year, students often find better opportunities for part-time or full-time employment. I also encourage students to proactively engage in industry projects to gain practical experience.

Is there anything that you would do differently if you could do it over again?
Nothing.
What was the biggest surprise in your study abroad adventure?
The unique experience of walking across icy paths just to attend class.
