📐 Attendance Formulas & Calculation Logic

Understand how attendance percentages, safe-skip margins, and shortage recovery are calculated mathematically.

1. Attendance Percentage Formula

% = (Attended ÷ Held) × 100

E.g. If you attended 42 out of 50 classes: (42 ÷ 50) × 100 = 84.00%.

2. Classes You Can Skip (Bunk)

Skip = ⌊(Attended × 100 ÷ Target) - Held⌋

E.g. With 42 attended out of 50 for 75%: ⌊(42 × 100 ÷ 75) - 50⌋ = ⌊56 - 50⌋ = 6 safe skips.

3. Classes Needed (Shortage)

Needed = ⌈(Target × Held - 100 × Att) ÷ (100 - Target)⌉

E.g. With 25 attended out of 40 for 75%: ⌈(3000 - 2500) ÷ 25⌉ = 20 consecutive classes.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions regarding minimum attendance percentages, exam eligibility, and condonation rules.

What is the 75% attendance rule in Indian universities? ▼

Under UGC guidelines and ordinances of universities like JNTU, Anna University, and DU, students must attend at least 75% of lectures and labs to take end-semester exams. Falling below 75% without valid medical condonation (which usually covers 65%–74%) results in detention (NE / R-grade).

How many classes do I need to attend if I am below 75%? ▼

Use our "Classes Needed" calculator tab. The formula is: Needed = Ceiling((Target × Conducted - 100 × Attended) ÷ (100 - Target)). For instance, if you attended 25 out of 40 classes (62.5%), you need 20 consecutive classes without absence.

How does biometric attendance and salary calculation work in Excel? ▼

In company payroll, per-day salary = Gross Salary ÷ Total Days in the Month. Earned salary = (Present Days + Approved Paid Leaves + 0.5 × Half Days) × Per-day rate. Our "Office & Shrinkage" tab calculates this automatically.

What is UK Attendance Allowance in 2025/2026? ▼

Attendance Allowance is a non-means-tested UK benefit from DWP for people of State Pension age who need someone to help look after them due to illness or disability. Lower rate is £72.65/week, and Higher rate is £108.55/week.

अटेंडेंस की गणना कैसे करें (Attendance in Hindi)? ▼
