The University of Burdwan is autonomous state university established by the West Bengal government on 15 June 1960. The university has been awarded five-star status by the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). There are 139 affiliated colleges (including degree colleges, B.Ed. colleges and private professional institutes) and this university offers 30 graduate programs. Admission to Burdwan University is highly competitive, as it consistently ranks amongst the best colleges in India. For admissions to the Engineering stream at the undergraduate level, students are admitted through the WBJEE, an entrance examination open to students from all over India. Postgraduate students in engineering are admitted through GATE. Admission to the Arts and Science stream is by means of individual examinations for each of the departments at the undergraduate as well as the postgraduate levels. This university has a Directorate of Distance Education for conducting postgraduate studies in distance mode.

Burdwan University, located in Bardhaman (earlier known as Burdwan) is one of the leading teaching and research university in West Bengal. The University of Burdwan offers 99 Postgraduate courses along with opportunities in research, internships, and distance programs.
The University of Burdwan offers Undergraduate Degrees in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Music, with programs in Law and Medical. In addition to it, the university also offers research program i.e. M.Phil in multiple specializations. For students not willing to undergo higher courses of studies as regular full-time students, the University offers education through Distance mode of learning.
The eligibility criteria for admission in the Post Graduate courses is to possess a Bachelor's degree in the respective field. For pursuing MBA, a candidate, must be a graduate in any discipline.

- In doing so, a new page will open, where the options of “General Instructions”, “Application Forms”, “Login to Student’s Profile”, “Results” will be available on the bottom right of the web page.
- The applicants can then go through the General Instructions and proceed to fill their application forms.
