OICL AO Exam Pattern 2026
The Administrative Officer recruitment process consists of three distinct stages: a Preliminary exam, a Main examination, and a final Interview round. Please refer to the table below for a breakdown of the marking schemes, total question counts, and section durations for both Prelims and Mains.
Stage 1: Prelims Exam
- There are three sections in the Preliminary Examination: Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English.
- Each section has its own sectional timing, which is 20 minutes.
- Each correct answer gives 1 mark.
- For each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be subtracted.

Descriptive Test (English Language)
To qualify for the Descriptive Test and the subsequent interview round, candidates must secure the minimum sectional cutoff marks in the Objective Test.
- The Duration of the Descriptive test is 30 minutes
- The total marks of the test are 30
- Letter Writing: 10 marks
- Essay Writing: 20 marks
Below are the required minimum qualifying marks for the Descriptive Test:
- General: 15 out of 30
- SC/ST/PwBD: 13.5 out of 30
The Descriptive Test is qualifying in nature; therefore, these scores are not factored into the final merit list or for shortlisting candidates for the interview.
Stage 3: Interview
Candidates who successfully clear the Main examination are shortlisted for the interview round, typically at a ratio of 3:1 relative to vacancies. The final selection is based on a combined score, calculated with an 80% weightage from the online test and a 20% weightage from the interview performance.
