The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced 7150 vacancies for the post of apprentice through advertisement no. CRPD/APPR/2026-27/07. The selection will be based on the performance of a candidate in the online written test and the local language test. The selected candidates will be enrolled in a 1-year apprenticeship program with the State Bank of India. As the application process is over, candidates who applied for 7150 vacancies will have to appear for the online exam, the date of which has been announced. What is the SBI Apprenticeship Program?

The SBI Apprentice 2026 Program is an extensive recruitment drive by the State Bank of India (SBI) to engage 7150 candidates as apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Selected candidates will undergo a 1-year practical training program at various SBI branches across the country, gaining invaluable banking knowledge, customer service experience, and essential soft skills. Additionally, participating apprentices will receive a fixed monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 for the duration of their one-year engagement.

SBI Apprentice 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for any banking examination is determined by criteria such as educational qualifications, age limits, prior experience, and local language proficiency. A detailed breakdown of these requirements is provided below:

Educational Qualification (as on 01/04/2026)

Candidates must hold a Graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university in India or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.

Age Limit (as on 01/04/2026)

Applicants must be between 20 and 28 years of age. The maximum age limit applies to unreserved and EWS candidates, meaning candidates must have been born not earlier than 02.04.1998 and not later than 01.04.2006 (both days inclusive).

Age Relaxation

 Upper age limit relaxations are applicable for SC, ST, OBC, and PWD candidates in accordance with Government of India guidelines, as outlined below:

Points to know before applying online

• Candidates are permitted to apply for vacancies in only one state. Submitting applications for multiple states will render the applicant ineligible.

• An applicant's candidature will be evaluated exclusively against the vacancies of the specific state they have selected. State-wise and category-wise merit lists will subsequently be prepared.

• Selected candidates will be posted within the designated circle of the state for whose vacancies they applied and qualified.

The recruitment and selection process for SBI apprentices involves the following stages of examination:

SBI Apprentice Test A: Objective Test (Online)

Apart from the General English section, the objective questions for the written examination will be presented in 13 regional languages—Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu—alongside English and Hindi.

Penalty for Wrong Answers: Negative marking applies to incorrect responses in the objective tests. For every question answered incorrectly, 1/4th of the total marks assigned to that question will be deducted to calculate the final score. Unanswered questions or left-blank items will not incur any penalty marks.

Test of Local Language

Applicants applying for vacancies in a specific state must possess professional proficiency—including reading, writing, speaking, and understanding—in the designated local language of that state, as outlined in the official advertisement PDF. A mandatory local language test will be conducted as part of the evaluation process subsequent to qualifying the online written exam.

Candidates who fail the language proficiency test will not be considered for apprenticeship engagement. However, applicants who can present a 10th or 12th standard mark sheet or certificate proving they studied the specified local language are exempt from this test. Eligible candidates must attend the language evaluation at a designated center within the applied state at their own expense.

Medical Examination

Final engagement as an apprentice is contingent upon the candidate being certified medically fit according to the bank's health requirements.

The final selection will be subject to

a) Verification of eligibility for the post and information furnished in the online application
b) Qualifying in the test of the specified opted local language, where applicable, as detailed above.
c) Declared fit in the medical examination.

SBI Apprentice 2026 Salary Structure

Selected apprentices are entitled to an SBI Apprentice Salary package featuring a fixed stipend of Rs. 15000/- per month for the engagement period of one year. Apprentices are not eligible for standard employee allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA) or House Rent Allowance (HRA). 

  • Stipend: Rs. 15,000 per month
  • In-Hand Pay: Rs. 15,000 (Typically, no major deductions or PF contributions are applied since it is a training engagement)

  • Annual Compensation: Rs 1.8 Lakhs
