Nationality/Citizenship

To be eligible to apply online for AFCAT 2 2026, candidates must be citizens of India, as per the Indian Citizenship Act of 1955.

AFCAT Age Limit (as on 01/06/2027)

The Indian Air Force specifies distinct age limits for both Flying and Ground Duty branches. Please refer to the guidelines below for accurate age requirements:

Flying Branch

For the Flying Branch, the candidate's age must be between 20 and 24 years (born between 02/01/2001 and 01/01/2005). Candidates possessing a valid Commercial Pilot License issued by the DGCA (India) are granted an upper age relaxation up to 26 years.

Ground Duty Branch

For Ground Duty Branches (Technical and Non-Technical), the eligible age range is 20 to 26 years (born between 02/01/1999 and 01/01/2005).

AFCAT Marital Status

Candidates under the age of 25 must be unmarried at the time of training commencement. Divorcees and widows/widowers under 25 are not eligible. Marrying during the training period leads to automatic discharge and a liability to refund government expenditure. While married candidates over 25 are eligible to apply, they will not be provided with married accommodation or be permitted to reside with family during training.

Flying Branch

  1. Passed with a minimum of 50% marks each in Maths and Physics at Class 12th.
  2. Graduation(minimum 3-year degree) in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent

OR

Candidates must have qualified for the Aeronautical Society of India or Sections A & B of the Associate Membership Examination of the Institution of Engineers from a recognized university with at least 60% aggregate marks. 

OR

A B.E./B.Tech degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks is mandatory for technical roles. 

Ground Duty (Technical) Branch

Refer to the following criteria for the Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) role:

Physical Conditions

Candidates must maintain peak physical condition. It is recommended to incorporate running, skipping, push-ups, and sit-ups into your regular training routine to meet the physical endurance standards.

  3. One set of Push-ups and sit-ups, 20 in each set
  4. 08 Chin-ups
  5. 3-4 meters of Rope Climbing
  6. 25m Swimming

Physical Fitness

Ensure you are physically fit for the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interview. At the time of reporting, candidates must be capable of running 1.6 km, performing 10 push-ups, and completing 3 chin-ups.

Tattoos

Specific regulations apply regarding the presence of permanent tattoos on any part of the body.

  1. Permanent tattoos are not permitted except tattoos on the inner face of forearms and the reverse side of the palm of both hands. The candidates who have tattoos on these parts have to sign a self-declaration certificate.
  2. Small tattoos of religious symbols, names of near and dear ones are permitted only if they are not prejudicial to military discipline.
  3. Candidates belonging to tribal communities are allowed to have tattoos as per their existing customs and traditions, it can differ from case to case basis.

Narcotics

The consumption of intoxicants is strictly prohibited. Any candidate found using prohibited substances during the selection or training phase will be permanently barred from the Indian Air Force.
